Annual General Meeting
The Association’s AGM was again held at the Bond in Birmingham on 30th April. Around 20 members and guests attended the event. David Lowe presented his Chairman’s report, and the accounts were approved. David Lowe, Richard Horne, Paul Ayres, and Brian McGuigan were elected or re-elected to the committee. Dr David Quarmby CBE was re-appointed President, and Dr David Hilling MBE was appointed Vice-President. Former vice-presidents Nicholas Hill and Tom Foxon were appointed as Honorary Members.
Following the AGM we had presentations from Elliot Lancaster of i-Recycle (presented on his behalf by Gerry Heward), who outlined the project to move waste by barge on London’s canals, Chris Evans of CBE Consultants and CRT, who updated us on the Leeds Port project, member Bernard Hales, who spoke about the challenges and opportunities relating to alternative propulsion systems, and well known waterways author, hotel boat operator and member John Liley, who gave us an illustrated talk on freight carrying on the French waterways. We are grateful to our speakers for taking the time and trouble to attend and address us, and to our members for their support at this event.
